Bee Information

Bees are flying insects. They are closely related to wasps and ants. Bees are found on every continent except Antarctica. These insects have six jointed legs, a three-part body, a pair of antennae, two pair of wings, compound eyes, and a hard exoskeleton. Bees also have a long proboscis (tongue) which helps them gather nectar from flowers. There are about 20,000 bee species worldwide. Bumblebees and honeybees are the most common bee species. The honeybee is considered as one of the most hardworking creatures of nature. The honeybee provides four food products for people: honey, propolis, pollen and royal jelly. Honey is the only food that includes all the substances necessary to sustain life, including water. Bees play an important role in pollinating flowering plants. They are even called pollinators.
