The American buffalo, also known as the American bison, is the largest land mammal found in North America. It can reach up to 2,000 pounds. Males are larger than females. This animal has a large head, a high hump on the shoulders and shaggy dark brown hair. This animal had an important role in the American history. The tribes of the American plains hunted it for food and clothing, and also used it as a powerful spiritual symbol. The American buffalo is a curious, intelligent, territorial and very strong animal.
