Cheetah Information

The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is the fastest of all land animals and can reach speeds between 112 kmh (70 mph) and 120 kmh (75 mph).

The cheetah's body is adapted for speed. It has long, slim, muscular legs with semi-retractable claws, a small head, a deep chest, narrow waist and a long tail for balance. Their coats are golden or yellowish, with many small black spots. The fur helps cheetah camouflage itself while hunting prey. Males are slightly larger than females.

Cheetahs are found in savannas, in eastern and southwestern Africa and Iran. The cheetah is listed as an endangered species; it is the least adaptable in the entire cat family.
