Flamingo Information

Flamingos are beautiful birds that live and feed in shallow waters. They are found in habitats like estuaries, saline or alkaline lakes. Flamingos have long legs, a curved bill and a long curved neck. An adult flamingo's legs are longer than its body. There are six flamingo species in the world. The largest flamingo is the Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus). It is also the most widespread species of the flamingo family. The smallest flamingos are the Lesser Flamingos (Phoeniconaias minor). The word "flamingo" comes from the Latin word meaning flame.
