Goat Information

The domestic goat (Capra hircus) is a member of the Bovidae family. Goats are one of the first animals tamed by humans. They originated in Egypt and are closely related to sheep. Domestic goats can be found on every continent, except Antarctica. They are very adaptable to almost any habitat, including savanna, desert, and mountains. Goats have long, thick coat that protects them from cold. Their fleece can be white, tawny, tan, brown, grey, or black. Goats provide us milk, meat, hair, and skins. The most common domestic breeds are the Angora, Cashmere, French-Alpine, Saanen, Nubian and Toggenburg.
