Hamster Information

The hamster is a rodent belonging to the family Cricetidae. The native habitats for hamsters are the deserts of Asia. In the wild hamsters live in burrows. Hamsters have been domesticated and are today known as ideal pets. There are 4 basic types of hamsters: Syrian, Russian Dwarf, Chinese and Roborovski hamsters. The word "Hamster" originates from the German word "Hamstern" which means "to hoard". The Dwarf desert hamster is the smallest, while the Syrian hamster is the largest of the hamster species.
