Insect Information

Insects are invertebrate animals. They have six legs, three body parts (head, thorax and abdomen), antennae, compound eye, and wings (but not always). Insects have mouthparts suited for chewing or sucking. Insects may be found in almost all environments on the planet. They are very adaptable. Some insects are useful for people; they pollinate different plants or improve the soil. Other insects are harmful and considered real pests; they can kill plants or animals and spread diseases. Insects are fascinating creatures and represent about 75 percent of all animal species. More than one million species of insects have been classified until today. The scientific study of insects is called entomology.
