Lemur Behavior

Lemurs are social animals. They spend most of their time in trees and bushes. However, the ring-tailed lemur, may spend half of its day on the ground. The majority of lemurs are diurnal. In the mornings, they usually sunbathe in order to warm themselves. Lemurs eat leaves and fruits, although they will occassionally eat insects or smaller animals. Lemurs communicate vocally and through scent markings. They have scent glands on their bottoms and on their feet. A group of lemurs usually has one dominant female who leads the group.
