Ostrich Information

The ostrich (Struthio camelus) is the largest living bird in the world and lays the largest egg of any bird species. It can be found in central and southern Africa where it inhabits savannas and deserts. Ostriches have a long neck, a small head, a huge body and long, muscular legs. Ostriches are between 7 and 9.25 ft in height, have a wingspan of approximately 6.6 ft and weigh between 220 and 350 lbs. Today these beautiful birds are raised in many countries. They provide feathers, meat and leather. The ostrich meat is low in calories, cholesterol and fat.
