Peacock Information

Peacocks are large, colorful, beautiful birds. Peacocks are native to Asia, but they can live in captivity in other parts of the world too. Peacocks are members of the Pheasant family. These birds have wonderful feathers. Peacocks are actually one of the most beautiful birds in the world. Only males are called peacocks. Females are called peahens. Together, they are called peafowl. But the word "peacock" is commonly used to refer to both sexes. There are two peacock species: the Indian peacock (Pavo cristatus), also known as the Indian Blue peacock, and the Green Peacock (Pavo muticus). Both species have a crest atop the head. The peacock tail is called the "train". Only a peacock (male) has this beautiful colorful train.
