River Otter Information

River otters (Lutra canadensis) are semi-aquatic mammals, members of the Mustelidae family. They are found in Canada and USA. River otters have long, slender, sleek bodies, and webbed hind feet, perfect for swimming. They also have thick, compact fur which keeps them warm. River otters are 3-4 feet long and can weigh up to 25 pounds. River otter males are usually larger than females. Water pollution and habitat destruction are one of the main threats for river otters. The river otter is an endangered species.
