Seal Behavior

Phocids are specialized for aquatic life. They return to dry land or pack ice in order to breed and give birth. Seals feed on fish, squid, or crustaceans. Some of them eat plankton. Their social structure varies from species to species. Some are monogamous, while others are polygamous (Elephant Seals). Some seal species are migratory. True seals communicate by slapping the water and grunting.
