Zebra Reproduction

Females reach reproduction maturity in 2-4 years. The gestation period is about 12 months. One foal is usually born, since twins are rare. The foal is able to walk within 15 minutes of birth and can run after only an hour. Foals continue to suckle for up to 16 months. The average juvenile mortality is about 50%; since lions and hyenas are biggest predators.
